Kiev Weather

 

Kiev is also known as Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine. It is also called the City of Golden Domes. Kiev was founded 1500 years ago. Its population is 3 million at present. It is a historical and architectural city whose climate is temperately continental. Average temperature of Kiev in winter is 17.6 to 25°F and in summer it 62.6 to 77°F, although it may change significantly.

Kiev usually experiences all four seasons. Winter is very cold and snowy with temperature down to -20 oC; summer temperature can be very high, especially in July and August and may reach up to +35oC. Kiev receives rainfall for the whole year, but summers are the wettest. July and August are the wettest months of the year, and rainfall in these 2 months reaches around 100 centimeters. Spring season of Kiev is usually cold until March and beginning of April.

Autumns are warm till the end of September and beginning of October. This time in Kiev is called Indian summer. The weather is pleasant with the leaves of trees turning yellow, moderate temperature and less frequent rainfalls. January, February is the month of winter; in March, it is spring.  April, May, June, July and August are the months of summer and rain; September and October have neutral weather and autumn months are November, December which turn in to colder months of January and February.

Average maximum and minimum temperatures of Kiev during the whole year is as follows: January - max 30 oC and min 21 oC; February - max 33 oC and min 22 oC; March - max 41 oC and min 28 oC; April - max 58 oC and min 42 oC; May - max 67 oC and min 49 oC; June - max 74 oC and min 57 oC; July max 78 oC and min 21 oC; August - max 76 oC and min 58 oC; September - max 64 oC and min 49 oC; October - max 54 oC and min 39 oC; November - max 39 oC and min 30 oC; December - max 29 oC and min 21 oC. In snowy days, the temperature in January averages 9 up to °C, in February 8°C and in March up to 7°C. Average temperature in Kiev is 7.6 °C.

 

According to a survey, the average monthly temperature of Kiev is 26.5 °C. Each month, Kiev receives 51 mm of precipitation and 615 mm annually. Here, March is the driest month with 35 mm of hail, rain and sleet, whereas July and August have the wettest weather receiving 72 mm of sleet, rain, and hail. In Kiev, humidity is 75.9 mm and averages up to 63 %. Winter in Kiev varies from cool along the Black sea to cold farther inland. Summers are warm across a greater part of the country, mostly in south. In summers, the best place for swimming is in the Black sea, enjoying the warm sun. Most tourists visit Ukraine, especially Kiev during spring and summer and for snow in December.
